Psychotherapy in New York

A place to think clearly when life asks a lot of you.

Therapy for high-performing adults, teens and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, grief, burnout, perfectionism, career pressure, relationship stress, and the emotional realities of building or growing a family.

The pressure behind the competence

High-performing does not mean unburdened.

You are the person others rely on. You deliver. From the outside it looks handled, and much of it is. What is harder to say out loud is that you are tired in a way sleep does not fix, that your mind runs long after the day ends, that the standards you hold yourself to have stopped being useful, or that the closest relationships in your life are getting the least of you.

Capability can hide a great deal: anxiety, exhaustion, trauma, grief, loneliness, resentment, the sense of having drifted from what you actually wanted. I am not interested in making you less ambitious. I want to help you understand the patterns you are running, so that pressure stops being the only thing organizing your life. I want to be your ally towards creating a more meaningful and fulfilling life. With EMDR, we can even help your brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing -and sometimes resolving- the associated emotional disturbance.

About & mission

I understand pressure from the inside.

Before I became a counselor I spent twenty years in finance, and eight years as an entrepreneur, building, scaling and exiting a regulated financial analytics platform. I led teams, raised capital, and kept making decisions even when there was no obvious right answer.

What stayed with me was not the work itself. It was what I kept noticing in the people around it: how anxiety and ambition feed each other, how perfectionism gets rewarded until it stops working, and how loss and failure reshape who we think we are. That curiosity took me back to graduate school, and into this room.

My tools

Warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence.

  1. 01

    Understand the pattern

We look at what is actually happening in your thinking, your body, your relationships and your history, rather than at the symptom alone.

  2. 02

    Steady the system

Practical work on reprocessing traumatic or disturbing memories, on emotion regulation, sleep, rumination and boundaries, so there is enough ground under you to do the deeper work.

  3. 03

    Reconnect with what matters

Relationships, values, meaning and grief: the parts of a life that get deferred while you are managing everything else.

  4. 04

    Experiment with change

Small, deliberate shifts you test between sessions, reviewed together, so that the change is yours and not prescribed.

I draw on person-centered therapy, EMDR, CBT, REBT, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing and family systems therapy, within a trauma-informed frame. Methods are chosen with you and for you; not every client works with every method. See my tools →

Questions

The things people usually ask first.

What happens in a consultation?

A short, low-pressure conversation: what is going on for you, what you are hoping for, how I work, and whether I am the right person. It is free, and there is no obligation to continue.

What are your fees, and do you take insurance?

Sessions are $130 for individual therapy and $180 for couples. Sliding-scale places are available. Cognizant Psychotherapy does not take insurance, and provides a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are by secure video only; I do not currently offer in-person appointments. I see clients who are physically located in New York State at the time of the session.

If something in this sounds familiar, it is worth a conversation.

A free fifteen-minute consultation is a low-pressure conversation about what is going on and whether working together makes sense. There is no obligation, and it is fine to be unsure.
